Implementation

The Implementation division is responsible for monitoring and facilitating ongoing Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) implementation obligations and activities pursuant to settled lands, resources and self-government agreements and works closely with GNWT departments to assist them in implementing agreements. The division represents the GNWT on trilateral Implementation Committees tasked with overseeing and providing direction to the parties to the agreements.

The Implementation division is also responsible for negotiating implementation plans and related financing agreements, including bilateral funding agreements, with the federal government to cover incremental costs associated with implementing lands, resources and self-government agreements.

The division continues to negotiate a comprehensive approach for self-government financing with the Federal Government to ensure adequate resources will be available to successfully implement self-government agreements in the NWT.
