Welcome to Aboriginal Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations 

The Department of Aboriginal Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations (DAAIR) is the central agency that supports the Minister Responsible for Aboriginal Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations.

The core activities of the Department are to manage and co-ordinate the Government of the Northwest Territories' (GNWT) participation in all land, resources and self-government negotiations.

This includes:

  • co-ordinating the implementation of final land, resources, and self-government agreements;
  • negotiating implementation agreements and financing arrangements for land, resources, and self-government agreements;
  • negotiating land, resources, and self-government agreements; and
  • managing relations with federal, provincial, territorial, Aboriginal and international governments.
